Immigrant and Newcomer Support Fund

Did you know that Fort McMurray has the largest immigrant population per capita in Canada?

The Wood Buffalo Local Immigration Partnership (LIP) recently presented their 2022 Research Report. The research aimed to identify the settlement needs of immigrants in the Wood Buffalo region, assess how well services meet their needs and develop areas for action. Settlement challenges for immigrants include: difficulty finding full time work that uses their skills and experience; finding affordable childcare; accessing appropriate language training; accessing health care information and services; and racism and discrimination.

Numerous organizations, such as those involved with LIP and the Newcomer Interagency Network (NIN), are currently working together to meet the needs of immigrants and newcomers but funding is critical to ensure that all newcomers to this region are able to settle here without barriers or challenges.

WBCF is proud to bring together a collaborative, community-supported fund that will provide permanent funding to local social profits that support immigrants and newcomers who make this region home.

This new Fund needs your support! Contribute today -- every dollar counts as we welcome all newcomers to Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo.
